Presentation of Book of Photographs by Laila Halilova
On 15 June, on the creative premises of the creative group Orbit, there was presented the book of photographs by Lailas Halilova. The event took place in the cosy urban picnic atmosphere – the author was awarding her autographs and receiving congratulations, treated guests with compote and wine, while Sergejs Timofejevs was taking care of the music.
Lailas Halilova’s book of black-and-white photographs is one of the three EXP36 series albums by Riga photographers, which was prepared to be published by the Orbit group. Māra Traumane wrote an introduction to the book.
The publishing of the book was supported by the State Cultural foundation and the company Arctic paper.
In the EXP36 series, it was planned to publish the book devoted to the creative heritage of Vita Upeniece as well as the book about the artist, designer and photographer Vladimirs Leibgams.
The First Event of Future Shorts on Andrejsala
On 30 June, the Carpenter’s Workshop (which has now become a home to the Andrejsala branch of the club Pulkvedim neviens neraksta (Nobody Writes to the Colonel)) hosted Latvia’s first event of the international shorts project Future Shorts.
Future Shorts is an international project, the goal of which is to create a broader audience for shorts and to redefine the role of short-length films in the world’s visual arts culture. During the event held on Andrejsala, there was a chance to watch 13 various shorts, which had been produced in Japan, the UK, Hungary, France, Latvia etc. A special guest of the event was Fabien Riggall, the founder of Future Shorts.
Within the framework of Future Shorts, on a monthly basis, there is prepared a program of latest shorts, which is exhibited in over 30 venues worldwide. The program includes shorts of various genres, starting with fiction films and animation films as well as music videos.
The festival Future Shorts returned to Andrejsala in the following months, too.
