This year the Latvian Museum of Naïve Art will celebrate its fifth anniversary. Supported by SIA Jaunrīgas attīstības uzņemums, the company in charge of Andrejsala’s development, the the museum is looking forward to opening its fifth season on May 13, 2010.

Those who frequented the south part of Andrejsala in the summer of 2009 probably noticed some activity in and around one of the most notable buildings on the development site, the two-storey brick house in Andrejostas Street 4. The historic building has been refurbished and decorated to be able to accept arists-in-residence. The new purpose of the bulding is also displayed in its current Latvian name, A. Rezidences.

The TV film ‘The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler’, a Hallmark Hall of Fame production, was premièred at Rīga’s Congress House on October 1. The filming of the teleplay took place at several locations in Rīga, including Andrejsala, which also hosted the base camp and offices for the casting crew and the multinational technical group involved in the process.

Named in the memory of the Latvian old master painter Vilhelms Purvītis, the newest Latvian art award has been received by the contemporary artist Katrīna Neiburga. She received the nomination thanks to her two outstanding works of art: Topology 29, part of the Urbanologic exhibition in Andrejsala, and Solitude, exhibited during the 2nd Moscow's Biennial of Contemporary Art and acquired by Finland's Kiasma.
