Peahen, Andrejsala's painting and screenprinting studio, was founded by Patricija Brekte, a young, ingenious and ambitious multiartist. Patricija's CV already lists four solo exhibitions: Black-and-White Rhythms in St. Petersburg; Cars on Standby in an old windmill near Gulbene; Bridge Router at the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Rīga; Reality and Illusion at the State Art Museum of Pskov in Russia. She has widened her artistic horizons by making professional visits to the art workshops of Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, by being part of a project related to the twinning of the cities of Rīga and Bremen in Rechtenfeld (Germany), by contributing to the Latvian festival in Hamburg and by participating in the Bite Open Art project in Vērmane Park of Rīga.
The artist has explored the opportunities of several recognised exhibitions of drawings and has also participated in shows of paintings; this inspires her to discover new creative paths, to seek and refine her own special touch in painting. According to Patricija, one of the main sources of artistic creativity is travelling and experiencing "other climate zones of the world of art". In Brekte's own words, "Travelling and being on the move is a key part of my life".
A peacock with a gorgeous tail is the studio's mascot, symbolic guru and part of the studio's logo, for which there is the following deeper connection: peacocks belong to the same species as their female counterparts peahens; the Latvian name of this bird happens to be "pāvs".
To date, Peahen's premises have received some basic redecoration. In order to get things going, Brekte and her pals have already started organising events and parties, thus proving that the studio space can be used for a number of functions, including social ones.
